Happy New Year to all our friends and supporters from ISUOG Outreach!
In 2012, we are jumping right in to our first training course of the year — the second level training at St Damien Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Our training team will be arriving in the island’s capital this Sunday 8 January 2012 and will remain there until the following Saturday 14 January 2012.
The project has been once again generously supported by the Fondazione Francesca Rava – NPH Italia, SMFM, Physicians for Peace and Medecins Sans Frontieres.
The trainees will consist of the same group of talented doctors and midwives who took part in the first level training in May 2011, including staff from both St Damien and Medecins Sans Frontieres. Dr Jean-Edgard Aupont, who leads the OB-GYN team at St Damien, has again been an immense help in bringing the training together with ISUOG.
The training team will be led once again by Dr Lisbet Hanson (USA). ISUOG is pleased to see some of our old friends return with the team — Dr Maria Small (USA), Dr Enrico Ferrazzi (Italy) — as well as having new faces join the training efforts — Dr Jean-Claude Fouron (Canada/Haiti), Dr Samir Khalife (Canada), Dr Frank Sanderson (Canada) and Dr Andrea Paganelli (Italy).
ISUOG is very pleased and honoured to have such amazing individuals and experts on the Outreach team once again. They will be blogging here about their experiences at St Damien, so — you know the drill — check back soon and make sure to subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss any posts!
Some of you may remember that an ISUOG Outreach team was in Haiti when the devastating earthquake struck the island in January 2010. The ISUOG team will be in Haiti this year during the two-year anniversary of that fateful day. It means so much to ISUOG to be able to take part in these commemorations for an event that touched us directly, and we hope to continue to support Haiti in its recovery. We thank all our partners and supporters for making this possible, and we look forward to continue our work with you!
