Haiti Outreach team have arrived in Port au Prince!

ISUOG is happy to report that the volunteers bound for Port au Prince in Haiti have arrived safely.  The following report was received from Dr. Alfred Abuhamad who is on this trip and who is the Chair of ISUOG’s Outreach Committee:

“I would like to report to you that the ISUOG Outreach Haiti training course at St Damien Hospital in Port au Prince, in collaboration with the RAVA foundation, Operation Blessing International, Physicians for Peace and the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine is officially underway after several months of planning. Dr. Lisbet Hanson, Dr. Maria Small and I, arrived in Port au Prince around 4 pm today and Drs Ferrazzi and Stampalija will be arriving shortly having been in transit for several hours all the way from Italy. We are staying at Relax Hotel, an impressive oasis I must say, supported by Operation Blessing International.

It was eerie coming back to Haiti, especially for me as I have not been here since the Earthquake, almost a year and a half ago. Getting through customs was easy and quite efficient, but the attack by the baggage handlers as soon as we exited the airport, has apparently not improved.

We will be heading to St. Damien hospital tomorrow morning to start the training; we are anticipating 17 trainees from St Damien and from Medecins Sans Frontieres in Port au Prince. We are all excited about this course and look forward to meeting our Haitian colleagues.”
